Privacy Policy

Zen Bowl is a small restaurant, not an advertising company. We collect the minimum we need to make your food, run our loyalty programme, and reply when you write to us — and nothing else. We do not sell your information, and there are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

Who we are

This site is operated by Zen Bowl, a takeout restaurant located at 569 Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We are the party responsible for the personal information described here.

What we collect, and why

• When you place an order — your name, phone number, an optional email address, what you ordered, and any note you add. We need this to prepare your order and to call you if something is unclear. If you give an email address we send you a receipt, and a note when your order is ready.
• If you create an account — your email address, a password, optionally your name and phone, plus your order history and loyalty points activity. This is what makes points, rewards and re-ordering possible.
• If you sign up for the newsletter — your email address, together with a record of the exact consent wording you agreed to, the date, and the IP address and browser used. Canadian anti-spam law requires us to be able to prove you asked for our emails.
• If you write to us — your name, email address and message, plus the IP address and browser used, which helps us block automated spam.

Payment information

We never see or store payment information. Ordering online is pay-in-person: you pay at the counter when you pick up, by cash or card, and that transaction is handled by our payment terminal — not by this website.

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in — one for customer accounts and one for staff logging into the admin area. They are strictly necessary for those features, are not readable by scripts, and are not shared with anyone. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking. Your language choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage and is never sent to us.

Who else sees it

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we need to operate: our email provider, which delivers receipts and newsletters on our behalf. Our "Visit us" map is embedded from Google Maps, so loading the home page contacts Google and reveals your IP address to them, as with any embedded map. If you order through a delivery platform instead of our own site, that platform's own privacy policy applies to that order.

How long we keep it

Orders and loyalty records are kept while your account is active, and afterwards only as long as we need them for our business and tax records. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe, plus the period we must retain proof of consent. If you unsubscribe, we keep the record of that request so that we do not email you again by mistake.

Your choices and rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete your account and its data, and withdraw your consent to marketing email at any time. Every newsletter we send includes an unsubscribe link, which works immediately. To make any other request, just contact us — we will respond within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your loyalty points along with it.

How we protect it

The site is served over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored in readable form — they are hashed, so nobody, including us, can read them. Access to the admin area requires a staff account and is rate-limited against guessing. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect small deliberately, which is the best protection there is.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes affecting marketing email will be asked for again, not assumed.
